A Message From The Head of the Junior School – Thursday, December 18

Dear Junior School Families,

In our final edition of “The Weekly – Junior School” for 2025, I wanted to offer a sincere note of thanks to all of you for your partnership and support of Havergal this year. We have already accomplished so much together as a community, and we are excited to see all that 2026 has in store.

Our faculty and staff have been so blown away by the beautiful notes and gifts we have received throughout the week, including from the HCPA, sharing your appreciation with our amazing team. We are truly grateful for your generosity and kindness. Thank you. Here is a short Thank you Message to the HCPA Video from our faculty and staff.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday over the next few weeks, and a well deserved opportunity to rest, and spend time with family and friends. May the spirit of the season bring you all much joy, health and happiness. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all those celebrating.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, January 6.

Warmly

Kate

A Message From The Head of the Junior School – Friday, December 12, 2025

Dear Junior School Families,

What a pleasure it was to come together as a community for our annual Grade 1 – 6 Christmas Concert on Wednesday! There was a special magic in the air as our students sang magnificently and helped usher us into the holiday spirit.

In the final piece of the concert, entitled “There is Peace” by Jim Papoulis,” students invited us to think about how in a world where there is conflict, peace can be found inside each and every one of us. We spoke about how while for many, this is the “most wonderful time of the year”, for others it can be a time of amplified silence, bringing on feelings of sadness or loss. With this in mind, my challenge for all of us as we embark on the winter break is to take inspiration from this song, and:

  • Look beyond the tinsel: If you know a neighbor, a colleague, or a friend who might be finding this season difficult, reach out.
  • Check in: Send the text, make the call, or drop off a card.
  • Be the Peace: Let the melody of the song translate into action. A small gesture of kindness is the most authentic way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

If you were unable to attend or simply want to re-live the magic, I highly encourage you to watch the full concert on Havergal’s Youtube Channel.

For all those celebrating the start of Hunukkah on Sunday, we wish you a joyful celebration with family and friends.

Warmly

Kate

Term 1 Report Cards Available on Wednesday, December 17, 4 pm

Term 1 report cards will be available for parents and students to access through the Veracross portal on Wednesday, December 17 at 4:00pm.

December report cards represent a snapshot of a student’s achievements, progress, and areas for growth at this point in the academic year. The objective of a report card is to communicate what a student has learned and how she is developing as a learner across each discipline.

Partnership between Havergal and parents is key to student success. We encourage you to take time to review the report card, discuss it with your child, and identify any key themes or questions you might have. If you have any questions about specific courses, please reach out directly to the teacher; they are eager to partner with you.

Further information on how to access the report cards will be emailed next week. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Lam Nguyen, Dean of Academics.

Locker and Cubby Clean out Next Week

All students are asked to bring all personal belongings home over the Winter Break. This is so that our cleaners are able to do an extra deep cleaning during the break.

A Message From The Head of the Junior School – Friday, December 5, 2025

Dear Junior School Families,

This morning we had the pleasure of coming together for the highly anticipated Kindergarten Christmas Concert!  It was such a delight to see our youngest learners singing their hearts out, and sharing what they love most about the holidays. As always, it was the perfect way to get us all in the spirit of the season. We are equally as excited to welcome everyone to St. Paul’s on Wednesday for the Grade 1 – 6 Christmas concert. It is going to be another fabulous way to come together in community.

I hope that you get an opportunity to spend some time outdoors this weekend! The students have been loving playing in the snow at recess!

Warmly

Kate

Returning Finished Library Books – Taking Out New Books for the Holidays!

With the fall term coming to an end, Ms. Rodd asks that families take stock of their library books. While books are not due until the end of the year, now is a great time to take stock and return any books that students have finished using.

A reminder that students may have up to 15 books checked out at a time (10 for kindergarten students). Thank you!

Dressing Appropriately for the Weather

The winter weather is here, and we want our students to make the most of their time outdoors to play, engage with friends, and to have fun. To do this, it is essential that they come to school with the appropriate outdoor clothing. Coats, snow pants or sweatpants, mitts, hats, and boots should all be brought to school so that students can fully participate at recess.

We also wanted to provide a reminder of Havergal’s Extreme Weather Guidelines.
