Dear Junior School Parents,

Happy Friday! The students have been thoroughly enjoying the sunshine over the last few days. It has been so wonderful to see them make use of our beautiful campus, playing basketball, soccer, and softball, running through the Lisa Hardie Trail, and having some of their classes out of the building, learning in The Cohen Amphitheater, and the Outdoor Classroom. When I think back to the last eighteen months, and the amount of time we spent indoors, I find myself particularly grateful that we are surrounded by the most beautiful environment. In the words of Laura Ingalls Wilder “some good old fashioned fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat!” As we head into the weekend, I wish you both in abundance.

UPDATES

House Colour Day – Thursday, May 5

  • In conjunction with our House breakfasts being held next week, we would invite all of our students, faculty & staff to show their House spirit by wearing their House colours on Thursday, May 5

Celebrating Ramadan and Eid

  • We celebrated Ramadan today in Prayers, and learned about this special time of year for Muslims.
  • With this special month drawing to a close, we would invite our students who observe to wear celebratory dress on Friday, May 13.

Ramadan – Food Drive

  • For the month of Ramadan, Muslim communities often act charitably to give to those in need. This special act represents thankfulness to God for helping them complete their month of fasting. Sunday marks the end of Ramadan and Eid will be celebrated on May 2nd. You can wish an “Eid Mubarak” to your friends and colleagues who have fasted during this holy month.
  • This year, the Muslim Student Affinity group (MSA) students in the Upper School have organized a school food drive. Please contribute with dry or canned goods. The last date to bring food is Wednesday, May 4.  Boxes are outside the Junior School Library.

Havergal Welcomes a New Executive Director, Advancement

  • We are pleased to announce that Havergal will welcome Annette Paul as our new Executive Director, Advancement. Ms. Paul will lead the strategic and operational functions of the Advancement Department including philanthropy and alumni relations, in addition to serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. 
  • Ms. Paul  is an experienced fundraising and development executive with over 22 years of experience in the not for profit and education sectors. She is currently the Director, Advancement at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto’s newest faculty, where she has been working closely with the Dean to meet the faculty’s $75M capital campaign target. While at the University of Toronto, Ms. Paul also co-chaired two university-level committees on stewardship and on equity with senior university leadership. Prior to her role at U of T, Ms. Paul held senior roles in a variety of educational and not for profit sectors including the United Way (Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington), Queen’s University and the Daily Bread Food Bank. Ms. Paul will join Havergal on May 9th , 2022 and parents can expect to meet her over the course of the spring and early fall.

      • 4:00 pm – Students arrive back at HC
      • Uniform: 
        • Students are to wear their Phys-Ed uniform to school.
    • Tuesday, May 3 – Softball Game on Lower Pitch and Ratcliffe Field
      • 2:15 pm – Students dismissed from class
      • 3:00 pm – First Game
      • 4:00 pm – Second Game
      • Dress: 
        • Students are to wear their school uniform and change into their softball uniform before the game.

  • This is a much-beloved tradition at Havergal that we are happy to bring back.
  • The whole school comes together outside and presents cheers in their houses.
  • Arrival and Dismissal times remain the same.

Grade 6 Celebration – In Person, Grade 6 families invited

  • Tuesday, June 14 (4pm – 5:00 pm) 

JS Closing Ceremony – In Person, JS families invited

  • Wednesday, June 15 
    • Students at school 8:25 am – 12:00 pm
    • Ceremony takes place in Brenda Robson Hall from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
    • 12:00 pm dismissal
