Junior School Update: Friday, May 29, 2021

Dear Junior School Parents,

Happy House Shout Day! It was such a joy to see over 280 JS students join together this afternoon for a House Activity, facilitated by our Junior School Prefects. I cannot tell you what a smile it put on my face to see them all in their house colours, participating so enthusiastically. This special reimagined event was followed by Legacy Prayers. Thank you to all of you who were able to attend. We had two old girls, and current JS parents speak about the impact that being an HC student has had on their lives. It truly showed how being part of the Havergal community doesn’t just end upon graduation, but is something that deepens and grows over time.

Wishing you all the best for the weekend ahead.

Sincerely,

Kate

A Message From the Head of Junior School: Friday, May 21, 2021

Dear Junior School Parents,

At the risk of tempting fate, it looks like spring may finally have sprung! The May 24th  weekend often feels like the beginning of the last stretch of the school year before heading off on summer holidays. As we head into the weeks ahead, I invite you to take some time to reflect upon your child’s many experiences over the course of the year. What will she most remember about 2020 -21? Is there something she is proud of accomplishing or overcoming? How was she a good friend, and was she supported by a friend? While we are thoughtfully preparing for end of year celebrations, I am conscious of helping our students to also stay present in the moment, and enjoy these final days together.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and sunny long weekend!

Sincerely,

Kate White

LATEST NEWS

JS Chaplain

It is with mixed emotion that I share the news with you that Rev. Stephanie Douglas will be returning to full time parish ministry in Pickering at the end of this academic year. This is a  wonderful opportunity for her to once again lead a church, and will also allow her greater flexibility in her day to day life, as well as to spend more time with her family.

Rev. Douglas has asked that I share a personal note of thanks, which is as follows:

“I am so thankful to Havergal for the opportunity to be a part of a community dedicated to the education of girls. I am grateful to the admin for their support, personally and professionally, and to colleagues who taught me to teach and exposed me to a wealth of insights from the world of education. I am grateful to the students; coming to spend my days with them, five days a week, has been a true joy. My time at Havergal has stretched me, and I will be forever grateful for the relationships I developed at the school.”

We are grateful for having had the opportunity to work alongside Rev. Douglas, and for her many contributions. Her ability to gain the trust of her colleagues, offer sage advice, and listen deeply will continue to be an asset to those in her new community. Please join me in wishing her the very best in this next chapter. Havergal has begun the process of recruiting a full time (JK – 12) Chaplain.

Vaccination Updates for Children 12 and Older

  • The COVID-19 vaccination roll-out is a government/public health directed initiative and currently there are several pop-up clinics for youth aged 12+ in public spaces such as community centres, arenas, public school spaces. As the vaccine roll-out progresses we will continue to collaborate with our public health unit to facilitate vaccination within our school community.
  • Beginning the week of May 31, youth between age 12 and 17 who have not received a vaccine will be eligible to book an appointment to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
  • We encourage you to get your child vaccinated when available and continue to monitor updates about vaccination opportunities for individuals aged 12+ through Toronto Public Health and organizations such as Vaccine Hunters Canada

Please note that Toronto Public Health has asked that the following documents are shared with you:

A Message From the Head of the Junior School: Friday, May 7, 2021

Dear Junior School Parents,

I came across this quote today, that I wanted to share with you:

“Some Good Old Fashioned Fresh Air and Sunshine Are Hard to Beat!”

Laura Ingalls Wilder

As we head into the weekend, I wish you both in abundance.

Please take a moment to read this week’s edition of the JS Blog carefully, as it contains important information regarding the weeks to come.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy weekend ahead.

Sincerely,

Kate White

Major Dates Calendar 2020-2021

  • Please see the updated major dates calendar that reflects the newly-added Professional Development Days on May 7 and May 21. As we continue to navigate this prolonged remote learning period it is important to give teaching faculty time to review and adjust programming to ensure they are able to continue to deliver an exceptional academic program. As well, it is our hope that students will benefit from the opportunity to pause and step away from their screens.
