Message from the Head of Junior School: May 10, 2019

Dear JS Parents,

First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you for “Teacher Appreciation Day!” Our JS Faculty and Staff felt so loved and appreciated your appreciations!

This week we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week and spoke about how understanding your feelings is a key part of a healthy school community. Feelings, like waves, come and go. We all experience a range of feelings throughout the day (happy, sad, angry, scared, excited, jealous, …). This is totally normal, and part of being a human being. When these feelings become BIG, however, they can sometimes cause us to feel overwhelmed and then to behave in ways that we would not normally. This may have a negative effect on the community. If you are ever overwhelmed by your feelings, there are many things that you can do to help feel more settled.  For example:

  • Take a breath
  • Go for a walk
  • Talk to a friend, parent or trusted adult
  • Write down your feelings in a journal
  • Draw a picture
  • Use positive self-talk (I got this!)
  • Listen to your favourite song
  • Play a game you enjoy
  • Ask for help

Sincerely,

Kate White

125th Anniversary Message

Thank you for celebrating 125!

Last Friday evening, May 3, Havergal marked its 125th anniversary with a special performance event titled Past, Present, Future at Roy Thomson Hall. We were delighted to have so many members of our community––students, parents, Old Girls and faculty and staff––help celebrate this memorable milestone. Thank you for joining us for this special event!

From the talented Junior School Choir, dancers and drummers, to our Upper School music, drama and dance groups, each student played an integral role in creating a truly memorable performance and we sincerely thank all of you for your support.

If you would like an extra copy of the programme booklet, you or your daughter are welcome to stop by the Upper School Day School Office (DSO) to pick up a copy  If you were unable to attend the celebration in-person or would like to rewatch your favourite moments, we invite you to view the performances on our YouTube channel or the live recording on our Facebook page.
