Dear JS Parents,
This morning in prayers, we spoke about the power of forgiveness. Like all of the other traits we have spoken about this year, such as respect, kindness, joy, honesty, gratitude and compassion, it is often much easier said than done! I encourage you to speak with your daughter this weekend about what forgiveness is NOT (forgetting, expected to happen right away, keeping score) and what forgiveness IS (a choice, understanding that nobody is perfect, good for our physical and mental health). We then ended the message with a guided meditation to help us practice how to more easily “forgive and forget.”
Sincerely,
Kate White

West Humber Collegiate Institute Steel Pan Band Gr. 4 Workshop and Performance
On Wednesday we welcomed West Humber Collegiate Institute Steel Pan Band under the direction of Joe Cullen. WHCI last performed for our Junior School students in the spring of 2012. WHCI is known for offering Canada’s largest Steel Band credit course. WHCI students led our Grade 4 students in a Masterclass Wednesday morning where they taught them to play Lean on Me. Our grade 4 students did a great job and played melody, harmony and bass lines.
In the afternoon, WHCI students performed a variety of pieces for our Junior School students in Grades 1 – 6. Some of the pieces they performed were Imagine by John Lennon, One Love by Bob Marley and Hot! Hot! Hot! with special guest player, Havergal Music Teacher, Ms. Rachel Read. Our Grade 4 students also showcased their learning from their morning Masterclass and performed Lean on Me for the entire Junior School. We look forward to welcoming back WHCI in the future.
Beyond the Ivy Walls
Our Havergal Junior School students pursue a vast array of activities beyond our walls. Their dedication and accomplishments are impressive, and we want to give students the opportunity to share their efforts with our community. Highlighting and celebrating our girls’ learning beyond our ivy walls not only allows us get to know each other in different ways, it may also serve as inspiration for others.
If your daughter has an accomplishment from beyond the ivy walls that she would like to share, please submit this using the link below.
